COMMERCIAL.

We have to acknowledge receipt of Messrs. Williamson & Go’s. Share List and Investors Guide to date, from which we learn that cheap money and dear stocks are terms synonymous, while speculative operations may be regarded as the general result: the usual process prevails at the present time, especially in Insurance shares, which have undergone a sudden inflation of late, and continue disposed to advance in price. Almost everything in fact has an upward tendency, and the difficulty is to supply buyers. Local Banks. —Colonials steadily mend, and are in good demand. N.Z. Banks are required in small parcels at improved price. Nationals remain somewhat neglected. Insurance.—Every description of stock has experienced a rapid rise; South British are mostly wanted, but sellers are indisposed to act. N.Z. Accident Association shares are also wanted at a fast rising premium. Gas. — Napier, Wanganui, Wellington, Christchurch, and Auckland stocks have all been recently inquired for, and frequently dealt in. There is no subsidence in the demand, and figures correspondingly increase. Financial.—N.Z. Land Mortgage shares are wanted in large parcels, but are difficult to purchase. Wellington Trust and Loans and Equitable Building and Investment Co.’s have buyers at heavy premiums.

Various.—Gear Meat Co.’s have advanced considerably in price and favor. Mosgiel Woollen’s are quoted at 12s 6d., premium on 70s. paid up. N.Z. Drug Co.’s enjoy the public confidence, and have strong buyers; the stock is scarce.

New Companies.—The Wellington Trustees Executors, and Agency Co. (Ltd.) with a capital of £lOO,OOO is the latest announcement. It is the offspring of the Wellington Trust, Loan, and Investment Co., Lt., and intended to be officered and managed by that institution, the shareholders of which complain, and justly, of rwt being consulted in the matter. We consider a more meagre and ambiguous prospectus was never submitted to the public.
