A.J.C. SPRING MEETING. [Reuteb’s Telegrams.] Sydney, September 6. The fourth day’s racing at the Australian Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting took place at Randwicfc to-day. The following are the results of the principal events :— Randwick Plate. 3 miles. Off Color 1 Malua 2 Brown and Rose 3 Time, 5 min. 41f sec. Steeplechase ; about 3 miles. Uhlan 1 Draper .. 2 No oiher horses passed the winning post. Time, 7 min. 43 sec. THE BETTING MARKET. Melbourne, September 8. The following is the latest betting on the Cup:— 17 to 1 Bargo 20 — 1 Le Grand 20 — 1 Tremando 25 — 1 Hilltop 25 — 1 Off Colour 25 — 1 Sir Modred 33 — 1 the others AUSTRALIANS V. ZINGARI. [Reuter’s Telegrams.] London, September 4. The Australians Cricketers commenced a match against an Eleven of Zingari, at Scarborough to-day. The Home team went in first, and put together a total of 229. The principal scorers being:— Hon. Lyttelton, c .. .. 37 W. F. Forbes, st. .. .. 80 The visitors then commenced their first innings, but had only scored 24 runs with one wicket down, when time was called. Sept. 5. The match was resumed to-day. The Australians, with one wicket down for 24, continued their first innings, which closed for a total of 233, four runs ahead of their opponents. The highest scorers were :— Giffen, c 34 Midwinter c 20 Spofforth, c .. .. .. 49 The Zingaris then went to the wickets for the second time, and when time was called they had lost three wickets for 45 runs, of which number A. G. Steele contributed 30 caught. Sept. 6. The match was concluded to-day, the Australians proving victorious by eight wickets. The Zingaris in their second innings only succeeded in putting together 140 runs, thus leaving their opponents with 137 to make to win. The required number was obtained with the loss of only two wickets, and the Australians thus scored another win. The weather was again inclement. The highest individual scores of the day were as follows :— Zingari—2nd innings. Patterson, b 26 Studd, b .. .. .. 28 Christopherson c .. .. 14 Australians—2nd innings. McDonnell, c 67 Murdoch, not out .. .. 36 Scott, not out, 15 The Ashburton Spring Meeting is announced for November 20 and 21. The principal items are the Ashburton Cup, a handicap of £2OO, and the Racing Club Handicap of £120; in addition to which £3BO is offered to be run for.
