TREMENDOUS SLAUGHTER. [Reuter’s Telegrams.] London, September 1. The French disaster in Tonquin is not yet confirmed. The British Association for the advancement of science meets at Montreal. Admiral Courbet has bombarded the Kaingpui forts. It is reported in Shanghai that the French have killed eighty thousand Chinese in Tonquin, losing several thousand men themselves.
