Wellington News.
[raoii ouu own cobbbspondent.l Wellington, August 29. They Evening Post last night strongly condemns Major Atkinson’s Ministry, and alleges that this is only a new phase of the continuous Ministry. It is extremely severe on Mr. Wakefield, denouncing him as a schemer, intriguer, truckster, and ratter, and says that his public record has been one of talent unscrupulously misapplied, and thinks Major Atkinson was driven to great straits when giving him a portfolio. Referring to Grey the Post says his recent action towards Stout and Atkinson has occasioned many surmises as to his real object, amongst which not the least improbable is that he desires another dissolution in the hope that the electors, tired of disagreements between parties, will hail him as their deliverer and once more return Messrs. Rees, DeLautour, George, and Feldwick, with others, and put him in a majority.
Messrs. Ormond and Waterhouse refused to join Major Atkinson, though strongly urged. (Per Press Association.) Mr. Wilson’s election for Foxton is not to be questioned after all. The time within which a petition must be lodged has expired without Mr. Izard taking any steps. It is understood the reason he has not done so is the serious illness of his partner (Mr. Boll) which renders it necessary for Mr. Izard to attend closely to the business of the firm. The Government have decided not to fill the vacant office during the present crisis. In the House on the motion of Mr. Stout, it was decided to take the No-Confidence debate at 7.30 to-night.
