J Battery.—Monthly parade to-morrow night. B.M. Court.—The R.M. Court was not opened this morning. Ball.—A ball will be held at Patutahi on the sth of September. Sections.—Mr. M. J. Gannon advertises a uumber of town ssetions for sale.
E. J. Beresford.—The proprietor of the Roseland Hotel is now offering 2s per dozen for live sparrows.
Monthly—The New Zealand Industrial Gazette just to hand contains a large quantity of interesting matter. Roll. —Mr. Bourke requests us to state that copies of the burgess roll can be obtained at his office. As an election is coming on voters will find it to their advantage to have a copy of the roll.
Native Cases.—We (Wairoa Guardian) have received the following telegram from Mr. S. Locke, M.H.R. :—“ Have interviewed the Native Minister, who has promised to wire Judge Brookfield to adjourn all Wairoa cases to Wairoa forthwith/’
Mails.—Mails for Auckland and Tauranga, per Omapere and Southern Cross will close to-night at seven, o’clock. Should circumstances be favorable a supplementary mail will be made up for the Thomas Russell, which is announced to leave to-morrow at noon.
Mu', hl Improvement Society.-—A meeting of th 8 society was held in the Wesleyan Church last night, the Rev. G. W. J. Spence in the chair. A very interesting programme of readings, recitations, and singing was gone through, and a good deal of criticism indulged in by the members bearing on the choice and selection of each piece and its delivery. A good attendance of members was present, and three new candidates for membership were proposed. A public lecture is under topic to be delivered during September, by an able lecturer. Druids.—The following will interest local members of the Order. An illuminated address, the work of Mr. J. W, O’Brien, Melbourne, is at present on view in the window of Messrs. Upton & Co., stationers, Queenstreet. It is presented by the Order of Druids, No. 18 District, to Mr. W, K. Bishop? late President of the district. The address is done in the old style of lettering, handsomely illuminated, and bordered with a wreath of flowers. The signatures of the various officers of the order are attached to the document.
Concert.—lt is announced that a concert, to be conducted by Mrs. Butler, will be held in Macfarlane’s Hall, on Thursday, September 4th. We understand that the novel feature of the entertainment will be a “ piano concert,” where as many as five performers will play on as many pianos simultaneously. Many of Mrs. Butler’s music pupils, who are considered to be proficient, will, on this occasion,-make their first appearance before a Gisborne audience. Several of our wellknown vocalists have promised to render assistance on this occasion.
