FURTHER RICH FINDS. SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE. NEW INDUSTRY, (Per Press Association.) Aucki ind, August 26. Sir H. Parkes was a thiough passenger by the mail boat. While in America he saw the President of the Pacific Steamship Company and Jay Gould (the Ameiican Railroad King), and advocated establishing a kind of thirtytwo days’ service between Liverpool and Sydney, via San Francisco and Auckland, which service he believed would be contributed to by all the Australian colonies except South Australia.
At a meeting of the Auckladd Liberal Association last night, resolutions were passed regretting the unsatisfactory state of affai s in Pa-Lament, and the suspension of public business were carried. The Association recorded its hope that members generally, and
especially those elected for Auckland constitutencies, would use all legitimate efforts to prevent the return to power of the party hitherto led by Major Atkinson. The cold was so severe on Friday night that several castings two inches thick flew into pieces with reports like pistol-shots. Wellington, August 26. Colonel Leckie died last night from liver complaint. His death was accelerated through a shock received by a fire b.caking out on his premises some little time ago. He was sixty years of age. He was a Colonel in the 39th regiment, on full pay, and served through a poition of the Crimean war, being present at the storming of Sebastapool, in which he took an active pait. He served in Canada and variout parts of India, and was an intimate f iend of Chinese Go.don. He leaves a wife and giown family. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received advice that their steamer Aorangi, fiom London to Wellington, has arrived at the Cape.
Arrived : Peter Smart, ship, Captain Vanstone, 110 days from London. Included among her cargo arc two torpedo boats, one for Auckland, and one for Wellington. Arrived : Nettie, brigantine, Captain Lowery, 140 days from New York. A portion of her cango is consigned to Auckland. The barque G. M. Tucker, from Newcastle* while beating in, grounded on the south end of Hope Shoal. After remaining two hours she floated off, and is apparently uninjured. The Hon. W. Wood, M.L.C., of Invercargill, is suffering from paralysis, and but slight hopes are entertained of his recovery.
