HAWKE’S BAY SPRING MEETING. AMALGAMATION OF CLUBS. [Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 21. A conference of delegates from the Wellington Racing Club and the Wellington Jockey Club was held yesterday. Certain proposals were made which will be considered at a meeting of the latter club before anything is definitely decided. Napier, August 20. The following weights have been declared for the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club Spring Meeting:— Spring Handicap of 200 sovs.; miles.

Clifford, the oarsman, has issued a challenge to all-comers to row a sculling match for any sum up to £5OO a-side. Sir Modred has been scratched for the Hawksbury Handicap. Great dissatisfaction is expressed by the public, with whom the horse was a strong favorite. London, August 19. The cricket match at Cheltenham, Australians v. Gloucestershire, was resumed to-day. The weather was showery, and the attendance of spectators only moderate. The Australians, with two wickets down for 176, continued their innings and scored 402 before they were all disposed of. The following were the principal scorers : — Murdoch, b .. .. .. 89 Scott, run out, 65 Giffen, c .. .. .. 91 Bonnor, c 53 Blackham, c .. .. .. 20 The Home team, who had only scored 183 in their first innings, then went in for the second time, but, owing to the wicket being cut up, the bowling of the visitors proved almost unplayable, and none of the batsmen made any stand, the score standing at the end of the day at 7 wickets for 38 rans. The remaining three players require to make 182 runs to avert a one innings defeat.
