LIBRARY COMMITTEE.
An adjourned meeting of the Committee of the Gisborne Public Library was held on Saturday evening. Present—Messrs. Sigley (in the chair), Featon, Warren, and O’Meara. The minutes of July meeting were read and confirmed. It was resolved that the first of a series of entertainments be held on Monday, 25th instant, if arrangements can be completed by that time. Librarian’s Report. The Librarian reported that a youth named Lewis had gone to Auckland, taking a book entitled the “ History of the steam engine,” and that Mr. H. McKay had mislaid or lost vol 9 of “ Chambers Miscellany.” The following donations were reported: “Quekett on the Microscope,” Dr. Pollen ; samples of titaniferous sand and tin ore, Mrs. E. K. Brown; “ Redcoats and Bluejackets,” Mr. W. Osborne. The attendance is up to the usual average, and the number of subscribers 110. The Secretary was instructed to thank donors. It was resolved that £5O worth of books be ordered from Home by next mail. The committee will meet on Saturday, 30th August, to prepare a list of new books. It was resolved, “ That if fifteen persons who are desirous of using the reading room before two o’clock will hand in their names to the Librarian as subscribers within one week, the reading room will be opened at noon daily.” Accounts amounting to £77 2s. 9d. were read over, and it was resolved that they lay on the table until finances improve.
Two of the committee volunteered to canvass the town for new subscribers, and the meeting then adjourned.
