A Strange Case.

INQUEST ON A FIRE EIGHTEEN MONTHS AGO. [Per United Press Association. ] New Plymouth, August 13. An inquest was held yesterday afternoon on a fire that took place in Starityn Street, in January, 1883. Mr. Pardy said the reason he had an inquest on this fire so long after the occurrence was owing to a house belonging to the same owner having been burnt at Henua. Mr. and Mrs. Charnock were examined. Before adjourning Mr. Pardy asked for a warrant to arrest Chaenock and his wife. He said that during the proceeding of the inquest the police had searched Charnock’s house, where they found a large quantity of goods which Charnock stated were burnt. The warrant was granted, and bail was refused.
