(EEVTEK'S TELEGRAMS.) London, August 7. The Australian Cricketers commenced a match at Clifton to-day against eleven of the county of Gloucestershire. The following are the names of the home team :—J. A. Bush, W. R. Gilbert, Dr. E. M. Grace, Dr. W. G. Grace, W. T. Pullen, F. Townsend, andH. T. Page, W. F. Brain, Carter, and Painter. The weather was splendid throughout the day, and there was a good attendance of spectators. Great interest was taken in the game. The home team went first to the wickets and put together a total of 301 before the last man was disposed of. W. G. Grace played splendidly, and carried out his bat after scoring 116 runs. The other principal scorers were—Gilbert, b, 57, and Townsend, b, 40. The innings of the local team lasted until late in the afternoon, and when time was called the Australians had only scored 14 runs, without the loss of a wicket. HANLON AND BEACH. Btosbt, August 8. Hanlon is the favorite at considerable odds In his approaching race with Beach. The latter, however, has many friends. HUNT CLUB STEEPLECHASE. (Feb Press Association.) Christchurch, August 8. At the Hunt Club Steeplechase there was splendid weather, and about 1,000 persons were present. In the Tally-ho Plate, Winfield, Mr. A. G. Rhodes' horse, came down, throwing the rider, G. A. Connell, and rolling on him, but breaking no bones. Connell was unconscious up to 10 o’clock last night. The following are the results :—
