Supposed Wreck.
FINDING OF A BOAT. WATCH FIRES ON PRESERVATION INLET. (Per Press Association.) Invercargill, August 5. The Riverton police report that a relief boat belonging to the barque Marie Auge has been found in Bougliley Bay, about two miles west of Colac Bay. The natives say they first saw it on the 2nd inst. The boat is 18ft. long, and is badly staved and otherwise damaged. Nothing further was found. Bluff, August 5. Captain Tozer, of the Ringarooma, reports seeing a large fire on Red Head, Preservation Inlet, last night. When passing Pursegur light it was also seen, but the fires were some distance from the lighthouse, and could not be seen from there, as the land shut out the view. The fires are supposed to be signals from ship-wrecked mariner?, and may have some connection with the medicine chest found on the Orepeuke beach last week, marked “ ship Marie Auge.”
