RETAIL PRICES CURRENT. Telephone Office, Saturday.

BUCKLAND’S WEEKLY REPORT. (Specially Compiled for the Telephone.) [by our own correspondent.] Auckland, August 1. At the Haymarket on Friday, 25th inst., fodder ranged from 3s to 5s 6d the cwt., with a good enquiry. Larger than usual quantities of grain were sold. Maize was at 4s 4d to 4s 7a ; barley, 2s lOd ; oats, from 2s 2d to 2s 8d the bushel; chaff, from £3 to £5 12s. 6d. the ton. Horses were in better demand than for some time. Young heavy draughts brought from £3O to £3l 10s ; medium draught, £l3 to £l9; riding horses up to £l9; a pair of buggy ponies £3B. The sale of implements occasioned a large audience. The ploughs brought good values, but the other implements were at very low values. On Tuesday the hides and skins were in larger than usual supply and good inquiry. Hides ranged from 2|d to 4d the lb. ; tallow, from 22s to 27s 9d the cwt.; sheepskins, from Is 5d to 2s lOd each ; wool from B£d to 6|d the lb. At the usual monthly sale at Papakura on Wednesday, there was but a limited number yarded, but all were fully competed for, and improved prices were obtained. At Remuera on Thursday, dairy cattle were plentiful, and in fair demand at late values. Store cattle were scarcely represented, but fat cattle were in full supply. Prices were very irregular, and only good quality maintained the late values. Inferior were lower in price. Fat sheep were in less than average number, and better worth, good wethers bringing fully 3d the lb. Pigs were plentiful and in fair request. Prices for cattle ranged from 20s to 24s the 100 lbs. Aged ewes in low condition, 8s each.
