[Reuter’s Telegrams.] CRICKET.—AUSTRALIANS v. SUSSEX ELEVEN. London, July 25. The Cricket Match held at Brighton, Australians v. Sussex was resumed to-day before a large number of spectators. The weather was very unsettled, heavy rain falling at intervals, and play being occasionally suspended. The Ist. innings of tho Home team closed for 390. The highest scorers were—• Wyatt b 112 Phillips c 11l The Australians then went in for their Ist. innings and at the close of the day had scored 223 with 6 wickets down. The following are the principal scorers— Murdoch, c .. .. 87 Midwinter, not out .. .. 59 McDonnell, b .. .. 30 July 20. The cricket match, Australians v. Sussex, was continued at Brighton to-day. There was a good attendance of spectators, but the weather was cold and inclement. The visitors, with 6 wickets down for 223, continued their Ist. innings, which closed for 309. Tho principal scorers were :— Midwinter c .. .. .. 67 Boyle, c 48 Being 87 behind their opponents the Austialians again went to the wicket, but only scored 141. Five wickets fell to Barnes for a total of 7 runs. The highest scorers were :— Murdoch b .. .. ... 37 Bonner, c .. .. .. 42 Midwinter c .. .. 27 The fielding of the Home team was rather weak. The Home team then commenced their 2nd innings, but only scored 25 runs, when play eeased. Blackham made 18, not out. The match was therefore drawn in favor of the Sussex team, who required 36 runs to tie, and had only lost 4 wickets. FOOTBALL. Wellington, July 2G. The first match for the Senior Cup wa played this afternoon between the Wellington and the Athletic Football Clubs, and resulted in a victory for the latter club by one try to nil.
