SPORTING.
CRICKET.—AUSTRALIANS V. LEICESTERSHIRE. [Reuter’s Telegrams.] London, July 14. The cricket match, Australian v. Leicestershire, was resumed and concluded to-day. There was a moderate attendance of spectators, but heavy lain fell at intervals. The visitors in their first innings scored 175, being 32 more than the Home team. In their second innings the Home team only scored 64, the Australians thus requiring only 33 to win the match, and this number they obtained without the loss of one wicket, the visitors thus winning the match by 10 wickets. Owing to the rain the wicket was very heavy. The following arc the highest scores :— McDonnell, c .. .. ..26 Midwinter, c .. .. .. 52 Spofforth, c .. .. .’.24 [Per United Press Association.] Christchurch, July 17. The first day of the Waterloo Cup meeting was attended by about 300. The weather was bleak, but the sport was enjoyed.
