The nominations passed oil tolerably quiet yesterday, there being little expression of feeling in any direction, beyond a few passages of arms between Mr. Bees and Mr. Percival Barker and Mr. Maud. On Mr. Barker referring to our late Member, Mr. Bees remarked that he (Mr. Barker) had “ Mr. McDonald on the brain,” “ yes ” quickly replied Mr. Barker “ and on the pocket too I Here’s another man also (Mr. Doull) got McDonald on the brain, and on the pocket too ! ” This sally was received with roars of laughter by the surrounding listeners. The next interruption was caused by a set too between two canine wranglers, but whether this was attributable to the force of example or not, we cannot say. This had no sooner subsided than Mr. Bees made an insulting remark about Mr. Maude, who quietly remarked “ All right, I’ll remember you for that.” The greatest surprise of the occasion was the unexpected nomination of Captain Porter and Mr. Andrew Graham. The former fully explained his reasons for the hasty step taken, and rendered necessary by current events. In the event of Mr. Locke being unseated—a very remote probability, and one which we should deeply regret to see consummated—we know of no gentleman who has a greater and ; uster claim to the support of the district than Captain Porter.
