[Per United Press Association.] SUPREME COURT. Dunedin, July 8. Judge I Williams in charging the Grand Jury said although the number of cases was in excess of the average, there were none of a serious character, the majority being larcenies of common place description. The only special feature in the calender was that a number of females were among the accused. James McNeill and James McFarlane pleaded guilty to a charge of housebreaking, the former being sentenced to six months, and the latter, who is an old offender in Christchurch, to three years. The bill against Eliza Cummins, for larceny, was thrown out. Philip Demerech, for forgery, got six months. Edward Adam was convicted of house breaking and sentence deferred. BURGLARY.
Auckland, July 8. Mr. Smith, fruiterer, had his shop broken into on Sunday afternoon, and the contents of the cash-box £45, stolen, Wellington, July 8. At the Supreme Court to-day, true bills were found against Robert McGarry, larceny, Albert Kemp, mate of the English barque Hudson, for refusing to assist the police, and Thomas Archer, larceny as a baillee. No bills were found in the cases of Charles Moore, perjury, and Frederick Hadfield, false pretences. Harry Walters, for house-break-ing was acquitted. The Grand Jury found true bills against Thomas J. Glew for perjury, and also against W. H. Monckton and Mrs. Alice Lynch for making a false declaration under the Marriage Act. THE KORANUI COAL COMPANY. At a stormy meeting of the shareholders of the Koranui Coal Mining Company last night it was decided to wind up voluntarily, and Mr. J. K. George was appointed liquidator. REFUSING TO ASSIST THE POLICE. At the Supreme Court, Albert Kemp, a mate of the barque Hudson, was fined £2O, or in default a month’s imprisonment, for refusing to assist the police.
