Tontine Assurance.—We have just received, per favor of Mr. F, J. Piesse, an interesting pamphlet entitled “ What is Tontine Assurance,” which has been issued under the auspices of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, and which will well repay a perusal. Copies can be obtained from the society’s agent, Mr. Piesse, Lowe Street. There is a marked decrease in the population of Fiji. The are 105 inhabitants on the Pitcairn Island—s2 males and 53 females. In South Australia the unemployed are receiving 6s. 6d. to 7s. a day. A Chinese mission in connection with the Wesleyan Church has been commenced in New South Wales. Queensland now owes about £19,000,000, or at the rate of £7O per head of population, yet she got close on par for her last loan.
