[Reuter’s Telegrams.] Hobart, July 1. The revenue for the year ended June 30 amounted to £56,000, the largest ever received. The Tasmanian Parliament was opened today. The Governor’s speech on the occasion announced that among the measures to be proposed would be one providing for the appointment of an Australian Federal Council. Melbourne, July 1. The Victorian revenue for the last quarter amounted to £1,510,000, an increase of £156,000 compared with the corresponding quarter last year. The revenue for the year ended 30th June amounted to £5,930,000, an increase of £332,000 compared with the previous year. The railway receipts increased £255,000; excise revenue decreased £91,000, owing to readjustment of stamp duties. The four Australian Governments having agreed to share the expense attaching to the extension of British rule in the Pacific, Mr. Service has telegraphed to the Agent-General in London, stating that the required amount (£15,000) is guaranteed by the colonies. THE CONTAGIOUS EPIDEMIO. Other cases of illness similar to those which appeared at Malvern and Prahran, and which were believed to be small-pox, continue to occur at different places. A student at the hospital is now seriously ill with the same complaint, and other cases are reported. The affection is said to be highly contagious, and difficult to diagnose. Sydney, July 2. The New South Wales revenue for the quarter ended the 30th June amounts to £1,830,000, an increase of £110,500 compared with the revenue for the corresponding period last year. RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS, The question of religious instruction in State schools is now seriously occupying the attention of the New South Wales Government. Adelaide, July 2. The South Australian revenue last year amounted to £2,010,000, being a decrease of £85,000 as campared with the previous year. The Customs receipts have decreased during the twelve months by 103,000, and the land revenue by £75,000. In the House of Assembly last night, Mr. Calton, Premier and Colonial Treasurer, made a statement in which he announced that the budget shows a deficit of £303,000, and that it was the intention of the Government to propose the imposition of both a Land Tax and Income Tax.
