It is announced that the Imperial Government have invited the Australian Colonies to contribute towards the expense to be incurred by the proposed extension of British rule in the Western Pacific. CHOLERA AT MARSEILLES. Paris, June 28. The outbreak of cholera at Marseilles, has not yet assumed a very serious phase, and the mortality from the disease is merely nominal. The private opinion of both Earl Carnarvon and Lord Roseberry is, that war is inevitable between France and England, unless the Recidives Bill is abandoned. They are unable however to convince Earl Derby of the gravity of the situation. June 20. The Northern Territory Land Companies Prospectus, which was recently issued, is now being floated. Shares are stated as being freely applied for. The proposed capital of the company is £5,000,000. June 22. Earl Roseberry has postponed his motion in the House of Lords for the production of the official papers relative to the Recidiviste question, until the 14th of July. Earl Derby, speaking at a banquet, given yesterday, to Mr. Thomas Archer, late AgentGeneral of Queensland, stated that Mr. McHuraith, ex-Premier of that Colony, had promised to support measures which the Australian Colonies deem it necessary to pass relative to excluding French criminals from Australia. The representative of the Australian Colonies, at present in England, have arranged to give a banquet to the Marquis of Normanby, on the 9th of July.
