FATAL BOAT ACCIDENT. A HOUSE BLOWN DOWN. LOST OVERBOARD. Auckland, July 1. A squall struck a sailing boat, in the harbour, and capsized it, the only occupant, Richard George, being drowned. Deceased was 19 years of age. A two storey house, in course of erection at Freeman’s Bay, was blown down at the same time. The damage is estimated at £2OO. In falling it damaged the shop and stock of Richard McCabe, ironmonger, to the extent of £lOO. Captain N. Jones, of the schooner Queen, lost a man overboard, off the North Cape. Phillip Ford, aged IG, son of Ford Baker, shot himself, accidentally, while bird shooting at the North Shore. Mr. Grogan, who attempted suicide by cutting his throat, has been committed for trial. G. W. Santley, for the same offence, by cutting an artery in his forearm, was discharged. Michael Kirby has been committed for trial for incendiarism. Christchurch, July 1. A two-roomed cottage, near the Ferry, was burned down yesterday. It was insured in the Standard Office for £75. On Saturday last a tall elderly man, unknown in the district, was run over by a train on the Waitara line, and killed on the spot. At the inquest no blame was attached to the driver.
