MUNIFICENT GIFT.
By the most praiseworthy and energetic instrumentality of Mr. Murchie, of Roseland, the widow of poor Downes, who met with such a sad death while temporarily in the service of the Government as a deputy returning officer for the late election, is granted £lOO. Mr. Murchie, by the wires, communicated with Mr. Locke, our representative, who at once interviewed Ministers and succeeded in obtaining for the widow the handsome sum of £lOO. This is one among the first fruits of Mr. Locke’s efforts in the interests of the district.
