Serious anti-clerical riots nave occurred, but have been suppiessed. Gas Co.—The remainder of the Gas Company’s plant, about 20 tons, which has been missing for some time past, causing no little amount of anxiety to the directors, has turned up and will be here to-morrow by the Omapepe. Supreme Court —The Supreme Court will open on Monday next at McFarlane’s hall, when the several cases in bankruptcy will be disposed of, before proceeding to the criminal and civil business. The Hinemoa. —A telegram from Wellington to-day states—“ Hinemoa, with from thirty to thirty-five members of Parliament leaves for Picton and Nelson at noon to-day. She returns here late on Monday evening.” Ancient Order of Druids.—A meeting of persons interested in the above, was held at the Masonic Hotel last night, when those present underwent a medical examination by the lodge doctor. Several more signified their intention of joining, bringing the number up to about fifty. The meeting to initiate members will be held in the (rood Templar’s Hall on Tuesday next, at 7.30 p.m. United States Presidency.—A telegram from New York says:—“The forthcoming elections to the United States Presidency, continues to excite considerable interest in all parts of the country. The Hon. Samuel J. Tilden has been requested to contest the election, but lias declined to offer himself as a candidate.” Condensed Telegrams.—Auckland — The Doric arrived at the heads last evening, with 323 passengers, a portion of which are Government immigrants for South- During the voyage sickness, in the shape of measles and chicken pox was experienced.—The charge of indecent assault, against Captain Scotland on one of the female immigrants, was partly heard yesterday. Christchurch—A terrible fire occurred about four o’clock this morning at Leeston, destroying a two-roomed cottage occupied by Frank Smith and wife, whose charred remains were found in the debris. Sydney.—At the football match yesterday, two goals were scored by the New Zealanders. Both were kicked by O’Ryan, whose play thoroughout the game was very good. London, June 12.—The Australian team commenced a cricket match to-day, against the representatives of Nottingham. There was a large attendance of spectators. The Home team went in first, and scored 170 for their first innings. The Australians then followed, and when the stumps were drawn for the, had lost two wickets for 44 runs.
