The race for the Ascot Cup run to-day resulted as follows:— Simon .. ... .. .. 1 Tristan .. .. .. .. 2 Faugh-a-Ballagli .. .. 3 FOOTBALL. NEW ZEALAND U. WESTERN DISTRICT. Sydney, June 11. The football match between a New Zealand team and the representatives of the Western Districts, wus played at Bathurst yesterday. It is considered to have been one of the roughest contests the visitors have yet had. The New Zealanders played their sixth match to-day, and scored another victory against the University and Walleroo Clubs, combined. During the first half of the game the visitors showed to great advantage, and scored rapidly but during the 2nd spell the local men showed much better form, scoring about even, and the play was very fast on both sides. At the conclusion of the game the scores stood as follows—New Zealand, 23points; Combined, 10 points. The (New Zealanders thus won the match by 13 points. The weather was fine, and the ground in good order.
