[Per United Press Association.] Wellington, June 11. Major Cautley was a passenger south by the steamer Hauroto. The water supply from the Wainui-o-mata having now reached the town, a test was made to-day as to the force. Sixteen jets were playing at one time, and water was thrown over the highest buildings. There is as yet no sign of the steamer Albion whieh left Sydney for Wellington on the 3rd inst. It is feared she has broken down, and the Captain of the Government steamer Stella, which left for Cape Farewell this morning, has been instructed to keep watch for her. MINERS STRIKE. Kumara, June 11. There are now ninety-six miners on strike against the new regulations issued for the use of the Sledge Channel. The operations are too oppressive, and would not enable them to earn more than their living as the price of water, for sluicing, is twenty and thirty shillings higher than in any other part of the Colony.

Auckland, Juno 11. The schooner Torea, from Rarotonga, reports that the French provision barque Buffon, from Caledonia to Tahiti, became waterlogged, and was abadoned at sea, in latitude 25 s., and longitude 162 west. The captain, a lady passenger, and ten of the crew, have arrived at Rarotonga in two boats, after being six days on the water. One boat containing some of the crew is missing.
