Local and General.

Threatened Dissolution of Parliament. —A telegram just received as we are going to press says Mr. Sutton gave notice that when Mr. Steward's amendment is before the House he will move a further addition to the effect that, in the opinion of this House it is extremely unlikely that any Ministry could be formed from the present House which would be able to command a majority, and that, therefore, the House prays his Excellency to forward the estimates necessary to carry on the government, and thereafter and immediately dissolve the present Parliament.

Harbor Board.—Mr. G. 11. Moore was duly sworn in as a member of the Harbor Board last night, in the place of Mr. Tucker.

B.M. Court. —At the Resident Magistrates Court to day Henry Hall was fined £1 in default three days imprisonment, for being drunk in a public place. This was all the business.

L. and M. Co.’s Buildings. — The cutter Lizzie arrived to-day from Taiaroa with a load of timber for the new buildings of the Loan and Mercantile Company. Three hundred easks of cement have also arrived for them.

Southern Cross.—The Cross leaves Napier to-morrow afternoon at 4 o’clock, and may be expected in the Bay early on Friday.

Supreme Court (Wellington.)—The case of the Gisborne Harbor Board v. H. E. Johnstone, has been decided in favor of the defendant. Mr. W. Brassey was for the defence. The hearing of the argument in the Kotorepaea Block has been, at the request of Mr. Brassey, set down for the 25th inst. The Ormondville Tragedy.—The charge of murder against Edwards was concluded last night, and was defended by Mr. Lee, who as the facts were undisputed, confined his endeavors to proving prisoner a dipsomaniac, who was quite insane at tlie time the murders wore committed. After a short retirement the Judge assumed the black cap and passed the sentence of death on the prisoner.

Telegrams.—The following telegrams are condensed for want of space : —Auckland, — The Harbor Board are again considering the advisability of assuming control over the Oncliunga Harbor.—Mr. Hitchens, of the Blood Restorer notoriety, has withdrawn his statement reflecting on Mr. L. D. Nathan & Co., and his creditors have accepted a composition of 7s Gd in the £.—Captain Lilliwell shot himself through the heart at the North Shore last night.—A verdict of accidental death was returned on the body of W. Jones, baker.—Elizabeth Jackson has been missing since Friday. The Grafton Road Licensing Committee have granted their solitary public house with an elevon o’clock licenses.—Dunedin—The barque Night Hawk, will take 140 horses to India for military purposes, they have been purchased by Mr. Cavanagh. Timaru.— At the Supreme Court the Grand Jury found no bills in the cases, Roetapae for larceny : Joseph Mackay, embezzlement ; Earnest Davy, indecent assault. True bills were found in the rest of the cases. Christchurch—The family of Mr. R. H. Rhodes intend to build, and endow, a Convalescent Home, near Christchurch. Before his death he handed £5,000 to the trustees to provide for religious ministration for the sick in hospitals. Hokitika— John Donoghue, found guilty of the murder of James Gifford, was executed this morning. Before execution he made a long rambling statement denying his guilt.
