Local and General.
R.M. Court.—At the R.M. Conrt to-day Charles Chapman was fined 15s. in default three days, for being drunk. The woman Rebecca, was again remanded till the 16th.
Jacob Faithful’s Consultation.—As the above consultation on the Hawke’s Bay steeplechase will close in Napier on the 24th instant, we advise all intending investors to secure tickets without further delay as the lists are rapidly filling. Wilmott’s Combination Company.—This talented company arrived in the Bay yesterday, and as will be seen from our advertising columns they oien to-night in McFarlane’s Hall, with a grand double bill, consisting of “ Withered Leaves ” and •• AU that Glitters is not Gold.” Mr. Wilmott informs us that in consequence of the Hall’s being engaged for election meetings, the troupe can only play for four nights, and that he will not repeat any piece, but wiU have a fresh programme every night. United Ancient Order of Druids.—We beg to remind our readers of the meeting for the formation of a lodge of the above order this evening in the Masonic Hotel, at 7.30, and strongly advise anyone who does not belong to some benefit society to embrace the opportunity now offered of joining one, at a greatly reduced initiation fee.
Native Land Court, Wairoa.—By to-day’s mail Gazettes have been received at the Registrar’s office notifying a sitting of the Court at Clyde, Wairoa, an the Bth July next. There are a large number of cases for hearing. U. S. S. Service.—The Arawata arrived yesterday from the South with the following passengers:—Messrs. Smith, Edmonds, Gray, McGlashan, Jacobs, Nolan, Dobbie, Croft, Porter, Campbell, A. McLean, J. Brooking, H. J. Jackson, Nolan, Cummin, H. Burgess, and Wilmott’s Company (16); Mesdames Gray, Brooking, Cummin, McDonald, two Natives, ahd one Chinaman. She left during the morning for Auckland with a small cargo and the following passengers Miss Drummond, Messrs. Foster and McGregor. Nominations for M.H.R.—The following gentlemen were nominated at the Court-house at 12 o’clock to-day, by the Returning Officer, Mr. D Johnston .—S. Locke, proposed by J. Townley, seconded by W. Stevenson ; M. J. Gannon, proposed by F. Shelton, seconded by J. Whinray ; W. L. Rees, proposed by W. C. Walsh, seconded by W. Madder. A report of Mr. Rees’s harangue to the multitude will be published to-morrow, other more important matter crowding it out.
