[Reuters Telegrams.] AUSTRALIANS v. LANCASHIRE. London, June 5. The Australian cricketers commenced the eighth match of their tour to-day at Manchester, where they met an Eleven representing Lancashire. An excellent wicket was pitched, and the ground was in perfect order. The Australians went in first, and succeeded in putting together 174 runs, towards which Bannerman contributed 36 (bowled), M‘Donnell 49 (lbw), Murdoch 49 (bowled). The Home team then went to the wickets, and when the stumps were drawn for the day their score stood at 100, with five wickets down, J. Briggs being not out with 4G to his credit. Giffen for the Australians bowled splendidly, and succeeded in doing the hat trick. During the day rain fell at intervals, and play was occasionally interrupted. The attendance of spectators was very large. Sydney, June 5. The New Zealand Footballers were entertained at the Town-hall to-day by the Mayor of Sydney. Leaky received a nasty wound in the eye during the match with Newcastle yesterday, and it is doubtful if he will be able to play to-morrow. June 6. A sculling match has been arrangecTbetween Hanlan and Beach, to take place on the Paramatta River, for £2OO a-side. The date and terms of general conditions have to be decided on. MARIBYRNONG PLATE AND V.R.C. DERBY. Melbourne, June 7. For the Maribyrnong Plate 108 horses have been entered, and for the V.R.C. Derby 125 have been nominated.
