(beuter’s.telegrams.) London, June 2. The Australians commenced a cricket match to-day against an eleven of Derbyshire at Derby. The weather was fine and the attendance good, but the wicket was rather bum by. The visitors went in first and scored 278, the highest contributors being Bannerman, o and b, 46, and Palmer, not out, 57. Spofforth’s hand being now healed he was able to bat, and he scored 19 (caught). At the close of the day’s play the home team had one wicket down for 26 runs. FOOTBALL.—N.Z. V. SYDNEY. Sydney, June 8. The football match between the New Zealand team and seventeen of the combined suburbs resulted in another victory for the visitors by twenty-three points to five. June 4. In yesterday’s football match Warbrick secured a brilliant goal by a long drop kick. Ryan and Braddon also aid some fine drop kicking, and Warbrick particularly distinguished himself in this play throughout the afternoon. Allan, Robertson, and Taiaroa were also in excellent form, making some splendid runs. The New Zealanders left for Newcastle last night, and to-morrow they play there against a fifteen of northern districts. In the three matches which so far have been played the visitors have scored 67 points against 5 to their opponents.
