Telegrams are to hand from Gibraltar, stating that Lieut.-General De Nachtigal, of the German army, is now at that port, and is about to proceed in a German gunboat to formally occupy territory at Angra Sequina, West Coast of Africa, which for some time past has been a German settlement, and regarding which diplomatic negotiations passed between the British and German Governments owing to a dispute which occurred in October between a firm of German merchants at the settlement and the captain of a British schooner over the question of the payment of customs duties. May 30. Sir Charles Gavan Duffy has announced his intention of issuing a series of “ Nationalist ” pamphlets, advocating a creation of the Irish Parliament. The prospectus of the new Oriental Bank has been issued. The capital of the institution will be two millions sterling. Brisbane, May 31. The Queensland Parliament will meet for the despatch of business on July Bth. Mr. Griffith, the Premier, in reply to a deputation which waited on him yesterday, stated that during the next Session of Parliament, the Government would endeavor to pass a law sufficiently stringent to put a stop to the influx of French criminals into Queensland.
