SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAN. London, May 12. Tenders for South Australian Loan of £1,650,000, at 4 per cent, and par minimum, are announced. Applications will be received up to 20th May. The cargo of frozen meat on board the ship Canterbury from the Bluff, arrived in good condition. THE TONQUIN DIFFICULTY.—CONCLUSION OF PEACE. The intelligence that a treaty of peace had been concluded between France and China at Tientsin, is now fully confirmed. CRICKETING. The cricket match Australia versus Lord Sheffield’s eleven, commenced at Sheffield today. The following are the names of the Home team :—Grace, Greenfield, Shaw, Hide, Phillips, Shrewsbury, Barnes, Barlow, Ulyett, Harrison, and Mycroft. The attendance of spectators was large and the weather splendid. The visitors met with a good reception. The Home team went in first and were all out for 86. The highest scorer was Shrewsbury, lbw. 39. The bowling of Giffen and Palmer was very effective. The former took 6 wickets for 50 runs, and the latter 4 for 30 runs. The Australians then commenced their first innings, and at the conclusion of the day’s play had lost four wickets for a total of 172. The principal scorers were — McDonnell, b 32 Bannerman, not out 71; Giffen, c 27 ; Blackham, not out, 22. AFRICAN TROUBLES. Cape Town, May 12. Telegrams from Natal state that a party of malcontent Zulus, recently made a determined attack upon Mr. Gisborne, the British Resident Commissioner, but the latter with the aid of an escort, and a number of friendly tribes repulsed them with heavy loss. The inter-tribal quarrels in Zululand is reported to have assumed a serious phase.
