The Melbourne Argus argues that the drama in Victoria, during the last few years, shows a sensible and marked decadence. What in New Zealand we call “distress,” is a condition which, in the Fast End of London, would be reckoned one of very tolerable comfort. It is painful when a man outlives his popularity. A writer in the Otago Witness sneeringly alludes to Sir Julius Vogel as “ a descendant of Abraham.”
