|Pkk Umitkd Pbess Association.] FATAL ACCIDENT. Christchurch, April 26. Yesterday, a child named Ann Jane Cair, three years* of age, was found by its mother lung insensible in the road near its home in Colombo Street North, died two hours later. Medical evidence showed that the brain was injured, evidently by a wheel passing over the child. At the inquest no evidence was given as to how the injury had been inflicted, and the inquest has been adjourned for a week. COLLAPSE OF LINSEED COMPANY. At a meeting of the Canterbury Linseed Oil and Fibre Co. this morning, it was resolved to wind up the company, owing to want of support by fanners. The bala icesheet showed a loss of £778. NORTHERN S.S. COMPANY. Auckland, April 26. At a meeting of the Northern Steamship Company, a report was presented, and was very satisfactory. A dividend for the halfyear at the rate of 10 per cent, was declared. The company are building a new steamer for the Tauranga and Russel trade, and an order has been sent Home for a light draft twin* screw steamer for stock carrying between the Manakau, Waitara, and other West Coast ports. GOLD IN THE KING COUNTRY. The Herald's Alexandra correspondent telegraphs that four ounces of alluvial gold from the King Country has been exhibited there. FATAL ACCIDENT. John Atchison, a bushman, was killed at Makarau by a tree falling on him.
