CRICKET MATCH.

The return match between the Matawhero and Ormond cricket clubs took place at Matawhero yesterday, in a paddock kindly lent for the occasion by Major Westrup, in the presence of about a hundred spectators, amongst whom were several of the gentler sex. Mr. C. Evans captained the Matawhero team, and Mr. H. Harris the Ormond. The Matawhero team went in first, and though the wickets went down very rapidly the respectable score of 61 was made before the innings

was completed, Mr. T. Wright making 24 out of that number, in first-rate style. After a short interval Ormond went in, but were all disposed of for the small total of sixteen, Mr. Wyatt being the only batsman who could stand at all against the splendid bowling of Messrs. J. White and Bloomfield. Ormond being so far behind, followed on, but could only manage to put together forty-eight runs, Mr. Wyatt being again the most successful scorer. Matawhero then followed on to make up the necessary runs, which Mr. J. White made off the first ball. The match being won so early in the afternoon it was agreed that the Matawhero should continue their innings, which through the splendid play of Messrs. A. Weston, Thomas Wright, J. Harris and J. White, was brought up to 83 runs. After the usual cheering an adjournment was made to the Royal Oak Hotel, where a splendid repast had been provided by Host Cohen through the able assistance of Mr. Ewbanks. Mr. Murchie occupied the chair faced by T. Wright, the highest scorer of the day. The usual toasts having been duly honored, and some very good songs sung by Messrs. W. Cross, D. Malone, A, Weston, T. Wright, G. Henderson and others,' this pleasant outing was brought to a termination about 8 o'clock,
