[Per United Press Association.] SUPREME COURT SITTINGS. Auckland, April 5. At tho Supremo Court the O’Brien’s, father and son, were sentenced to six months imprisonment for assault. George Daverel was sentenced to twelve months for forgery. The charge of rape against Henry Goodward is proceeding. The Rev. Mr. Jervois, the Governor’s son. preaches at St. Paul’s to-morrow. An English syndicate has purchased 40,000 acres at Taupo for £32,000. The negotiations were conducted by cablegrams, which alone cost £750.

JUDGE JOHNSON'S DESIGNATION. Wellington, April 5. The rumor that Judge Johnston had resigned his seat on the Supreme Court Bench is denied. R. W. Kane, accountant of the Bank of New Zealand at Wellington, has received the appointment of manager of the Invercargill branch, and left to-day to take charge. Christchurch, April 5. Mr. Montgomery addresses his constituents at Akaroa next Thursday. Judge Johnston is now convalescent, and able to take out-door exercise. He is expected to sit in Chambers next week. KAIAPOI SEAT. The Hon. E. Richardson will be requisitioned to stand for Kaiapoi when Mr. Wilson resigns. Dunedin, April 5. TLj big dredge has lifted 7,000 tons from the bar during the past week, which is nearly double the amount lifted during the whole of the preceding five months. The mortgagees of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church threaten to foreclose. The Vestry require £6OO beyond the £l,OOO already raised, but owing to commercial depression groat difficulty is found in raising the money.

DR. PARRY’S SENTENCE. A meeting of eleven medical men have condemned the sentence on Dr. Parry as unjustified by the evidence, as rupture might have taken place in the hands of the most skilful practitioner, to which Dr. Hocken assented. The meeting resolved to petition the Government to commute the sentence.
