At the Harbor Board meeting tonight, should Mr. DeLavtoub respond to the invitation extended io him by the Borough Council last Tuesday evening, we hope to have the benefit of that gentleman’s lengthened experience and valuable opinion respecting the faults and defects of our Harbor Board Bill and, at the same time we trust, to be advised as to the most efficacious, and expeditious methods of rectifying those shortcomings and errors into which the framers have, through ignorance, inadvertently fallen. But surely we may be pardoned for asking why—considering the acknowledged value of his assistance and advice in carrying out our scheme —was not this invitation extended to Mr. DeLautoub at an earlier stage of the proceedings, when every item of information, and any assistance would have proved most acceptable, and far more valuable than it possibly can at present. At the same time there is, undoubtedly, still plenty of opportunities, in the future stages of the Bill, to benefit by that gentleman’s veteran experiences and advice ; and as a proof that his opinion is entitled to the utmost respect, and attention, w-e have only to call to mind the consummate tact and skill which Mr. Del-autour displayed—far worthier of a better cause—while piloting that piratical craft, the Land Company’s Empowering Bill, through the Parliamentary shoals and quicksands, only to be swallowed up in the overwhelming breakers of public opinion.
