The Waka Maori.—The second number of this journal is now before us, and we are pleased to see that its enterprising proprietor, Paratene Ngata, has found it expedient to bring his useful and highly-appreciated little print out in an enlarged form. We are also informed that it will for the future be published, in a still larger form, every fortnight. There can be little doubt as to the success of our gifted friend’s venture, as the circulation already exceeds 500, and we venture to call our business readers attention to this fact, with a view of pointing to one of the best advertising mediums not alone in the district, but to all parts of the colonies. All advertisements should be directed to Mr. J. W. Witty, Waka Maori Office, Lowe Street, where they will be translated free of charge. Owing to the continued illness of the editor and proprietor, Paratene Ngata, the journal is at present being ably conducted by Mr. J. G. Baker. County Ratepayers.—We call the attention of our County Ratepayers, who have not paid their rates for the past year, to the fact that Mr. John Warren has been instructed to declare war against the delinquents, and to open the campaign in our R. M. Court at the end of next week.
