The London Chartered Bank of Australia at Horsham, a town in the north-west of the colony, was broken into by burglars last night. The safe was found open, and over £5,500 had been abstracted, chiefly in notes, the numbers of which are unknown. Later. Further details regarding the burglary at the Horsham Bank state that the safe was found locked, not open as first reported. It is therefore evident that the robber had duplicate keys. A clerk was sleeping on the Bank premises, but he heard no sound. So far no clue has been obtained to the perpetrator of the theft. Adelaide, March 4. A destructive fire occurred to.day at Cowell Bros.’ timber-yard, Norwood, resulting in the total destruction of the stock and premises. The adjoining buildings were also destroyed. The insurances amount to £15,000, but the loss is considerably greater. The disaster is believed to be the work of an incendiary. Later. It has been ascertained that the individual insurances on the property destroyed by the fire at Norwood were small, though the total amounts, as already stated, to £15,000.
