A bag containing twenty pounds weight of [ dynamite with clock-work mechanism was , found to-day in the cloak-room of the Charing Cross Railway Station. An infernal machine was also found at Paddington Railway Station. The discoveries indicate that a , plot is afloat to destroy the London railway termini stations, and considerable alarm prevails in the public mind. The mails (via Suez and Brindisi) from Melbourne, Jan. 17, were delivered to-day. The cargo of frozen mutton on board the s.s. British King from New Zealand has arrived in excellent condition. The first portion was sold to-day at from 5Jd. to 6d. per pound. The mutton brought from Sydney by the s.s. Iberia arrived in good condition. A. portion placed on the market to-day realised 4£d. to sd. per pound. Consols remain at 101 J, and New Zealand securities at last quotations. Scotch pig-iron has fallen Is. per ton. No. 1, f.o.b. in the Clyde, is now quoted at 455.; Gospel Oak galvanised iron, packed in cases’ f.o.b. in London, remains at £lB 10s. At yesterday’s wool-sale the catalogue comprised 10,000 bales. A fair demand was experienced. At to-day’s auction 6,800 bales were offered. The bidding was steady, but without an active demand. Adelaide wheat (ex store) is still quoted at 445., and New Zealand (ditto) at 365. to 425.; Adelaide flour (ex store) is at 30s. Cairo, Feb. 28. The force under Major-General Graham, now at Trinkitat, have received orders to advance against the enemy, and a forward movement will be made to-morrow (Friday). Two battalions of Egyptian troops under the command of British officers have started for Assouan, on the Nubian frontier, at the First Cataract of the Nile, with the object of opposing the advance of the rebels in that direction. London, Feb. 28. Colonel Butler has been placed second in command to Major-General Sir Gerald Graham of the British troops despatched to the Soudan. Public meetings have been held in various parts of England, and resolutions passed

condemning the Government for its policy with regard to Egypt. A detachment of Royal Engineers has been placed under orders for Egypt. Gordon Pasha has proclaimed the Soudan as independent of Egypt. Parts, Feb. 28. It is announced that Admiral Miot has been appointed to succeed Admiral Galiber as commander of the French fleet in Malagasy waters. Christiana, Feb. 28. An important State trial was brought to a conclusion here to-day. The Rigsret (or Supreme Court) passed a sentence of deprivation of office upon Herr Selmer, the first member of the Government of Norway, who was recently impeached and imprisoned by the second Chamber of the Norwegian Parliament. The Rigsret has confirmed the action of that body, and condemned Herr Selmer to pay all the costs of the trial.
