TELEGRAPHIC SHIPPING.

Tib Press Association.] Auckland, Feb. 4. The s.s. Doric has arrived from London and the Penguin from Fiji. The Doric brings fifty-six passengers for Auckland, and 143 for the South. Capt. Vine Hall, of Sydney, is engaged in making a searching investigation on behalf of the London underwriters into the circumstances attending the sale of the s.s. Triumph, recently stranded at Tiritiri. It is stated that Mr. Fraser, the purchaser of the ship, has received notice from the underwriters that the legality of the sale will be disputed. Mews. Russell and Campbell have been acting as legal advisers in the matter, and the probability is that if the evidence adduced when submitted to the underwriters appears to justify them in resisting the claim, they Will do so, leaving the owners to sue for the amount, and to settle the question of sale as they please. Arrived: Onward, from Westport? Fairy Queen, from Rarotonga ; Myrtle, from Tonga. The work of discharging cargo from the Doric commenced early this morning. She brings 2,000 tons for this port, of which 900 tons are railway-iron, part being for the Tramway Co. and part for the Rotorua Railway. The New Zealand Shipping Co. is making every effort to give ner a rapid despatch, by working both day and night. It is expected that the Auckland portion of the corgo will be got out in time to allow her to continue her voyage South on Thursday. Captain Metcalfe, who was in command of the Doric on her last visit to this port, has gone to the United States by the Adriatic to take command of the Oceanic, a large Atlantic liner.
