SOUTHERN CROSS PETROLEUM COMPANY.

In another column will be found a short letter from Mr. W. L. Greens, complaining of the comments we made with respect to the management of the Southern Cross Petroleum Co., and we are really sorry that the gentleman "refrained from making any remarks thereon at present." Our assertions were—as Mr. Greene must be aware—based on facts, and we are curious to know in what form he would be capable of defending the action taken by him and others in the

reprehensible proceedings we, in the interests of the shareholders of the Company, drew attention to For the information of Mr, Greene, who has, apparently, constituted himself the champion of thedirectore andemployes of the Company, we may state that it comes within our province to wateh over the interests of the shareholders

in the Southern Cross Petroleum Co., as well as those of any other public body, and, in spite of the denunciations of so very important an individual as the writer of the letter referred to, it will be our aim to fathom the dark matters exposed in our last issue. At the same time it

would afford us much pleasure to find Mr. Greene could prove to the public that affairs with which he has been connected, while employed by the said Company, hear the impress of business-like and commendable conduct. Our space is too valuable to waste any more of it on Mr. Greene’s important effusion, and we shall rest content with reminding him that “ fools rush in where angels fear to tread,” in the hope that he will not—although a man of very great importance be above having his little faults pointed out to him in the future.
