[Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright.} [Beuter’b Telegrams.} London, Jan. 21. Bishop Moran, of Ossory, Ireland, the newly-appointed Archbishop of Sydney, has been summoned by the Pope to Rome, where he will be appointed a Cardinal prior to his departure for Sydney. Mr; William Holms, the Liberal M.P. for Paisley, which he has represented since January, 1875, has resigned his seat in the House of Commons. It is announced that H.M.S. Carysfort, one of the vessels of the Mediterranean Squadron, has been ordered to Suez, whence she will convey Colonel Gordon (Gordon Pasha) to Souakim, in the Red Sea, on his special mission to the Soudan, The Government have approved of the agreement between M. de Lesseps and the British shipowners as to the Suez Canal* It is announced that Baron Maclay, the New Guinea explorer, will return to New Guinea at an early date. The s.s, Mirz.apore is taking £300,000 in gold coin to Sydney—not £30,000, as telegraphed before. Vienna, Jan. 21. M. de Giers, the Russian Foreign Minister, is now on a visit to this city. His Excellency received a cordial welcome on his arrival, and have been organised in his honor, Cairo, Jan. 21. Communication by telegraph with Khartoum has been restored to-day, but no intelligence of importance has been received from the Soudan.
