THE GOLDFIELDS.
(Neto Herald, Jan. Id.) Ths 89oz8. of specimens lodged at the Bank of New Zealand by the Success Goldmining Company produced 40ozs. ISdwts gold, valued at £2 17s. 6d. per ounce. Golden Hill (Te Aroha).— This company has just concluded a trial crushing of one ton, for the yield of eleven ounces of melted gold, and has squared off all its debts. The quantity crushed was small, compared to what quartz is in the paddock, and with the prospects ahead, the men working there are confident that something far superior will be disclosed. [From our owm ConniwrewnswT.] Thames, Saturday. New Prince Imperial.—Two cwt. of specimens were obtained west of the break, and as there is still a show in the stopes, other hauls may ba looked for. Some of the stone is very rich. The winze b?!ow No. 5 level is down twelve feet. The loader is about a fool ’ide, and 8lb?. fair picked s! oswere obtained ‘o- ay. Gold has shovii pretty freely in the winze on No. 1 lode at No. 4 level. t Deep Level Cross.—Communication with the 640 ft. level will probably be effected towards the end of next week. London.— The cross-cut is in about 70ft., and No. 1 lode should be to hand in a fortnight or three weeks. The country is pretty stiff at present. Driving beside No. 2 leader has been started, and the country is improv, ing. Caledonian.—The cross-cut has been driven 31ft. during the fortnight. The leader should be to hand in a fortnight, and the winze a fortnight later. The manager hopes to ba able to start ten head two or three weeks hence, and keep them going constantly. Manuxau.-—There era about fifteen loads oi payable quartz on hand, also a few pounds of picked stone. Golden Crown.—Sinking has been coni’ menced on the leader, Cure section. What seems to be battery level No, 1 leader is coming into the winze. Stoping is proceedlug on the No. 2 "haft leader, also rising and stoping on No. I shaft leader and the big reef. The crushing is shaping the same as last month. [BT TLLEOMMf.—OWN COJWUCSZONDXNT.j Thames, Saturday evening. Share-Market. — Dart, 65.; Deep Lovel Cross, sellers Bs. 3d., buyers, 8b; Loudon, 2s. Bd.; Imperial, buyers 20s. 6d. Dart.—The reef in the drive consists of a hanging wall about 18 inches and a footwall which is chiefly stringers, in all three or four feet crushing dirt. The footwall was broken in on Thursday and showed gold freely. To-day about 12 feet of hangingwall was broken to the face, and SOlta. picked stone obtained. Indications for continuance ahead are favourable, nnd the stopes show gold freely, and the crushing shapes satisfactorily.
