[Per Electric Tblekrawi—Copyright.] [Reuter’s Telegrams.] , London, Jan. 10, The intelligence received on the 7th instant that the Malagasies had accepted the French ultimatum, and agreed to cede the northern portion of Madagascar, is not yet confirmed. The latest news states that France insists on the establishment of a French Protectorate over the whole island, and as the demand is objected to by the Malagasey Government, matters are still unsettled. Tenders for the City of Auckland loan of £lOO,OOO were opened to-day. The total amount offered was found to be £702,000. Tenders at 102£ will receive live per cent, of allotment, and tenders above will receive in full.
It is believed that the Transvaal Government will reject the suggested modification of frontier which is proposed to be made, in order that native chiefs friendly to Englan J may be afforded British protection, Consuls further advanced and now remain at lOlg. New Zealand securities remain at last quotations, Adelaide wheat, ex store, has further fallen 6d. per quarter, and now remains at 88s. to 485., and Adelaide flour, ex store, 31s. 6d. Australian tallow— Best beef, 89s. 6d.; best mutton, 445. The mails (via Naples) per Orient s.s. Sorata, from Melbourne (Dec. 1) were delivered here yesterday, St. Petersburg, Jan. 10. Forty students have been arrested at Moscow on charges of complicity in the murder of Colonel Sudeiken, of the Russian Gendarmes. Calcutta, Jan. 10. Up to the present time the Exhibition has been visited by 268,000 persons. Varioua satisfactory sales have been effected, and the juries have commenced the work of allotting awards,
