He was bred by Mr L’onald Fraser, Rangitikei, by Traducer, dam Farr Lass, by Riddlesworth, fraud dam Fair Wave, imported from Sydney. 'air Wave was supposed to be one of the grandest Arab mares ever imported to New Zealand. New Chum has shuwn his good breeding both on the turf and at the stud. He made his first appearance in Wellington, where he started in a two-and-a-half mile race, weight for age, beating Whitefoot, Gazelle, and others. Then went to Napier, where he was beaten by Never Miss by a head, New Chum carrying 2libs over, Never Miss boating Lady Grey and others. He then saddled for the Consolation, beating Wairarapa, Lady Grey and Wide-awake. Terms, £3 10s each mare. Two or more mares, the property of the same owner, as per agreement. Barnton is a brother to Voltigeur. Bothwell has proved himself a sure foalgetter, and his stock, as two-year-olds, are well known to be the best in the district.
