BOATING,

When we wrote our het notes we ware compelled to complain of the irregular praoliee that was being taken by the puked crews of the Rowing Club. Now, during the last week every crew, with theexception of Ward's, have been working excellently together, each one going out daily, either in the morning or evening, We hope soon to see Ward bring his o*ew out. He has been impeded from doing so, previously,on aouountof the unavoid> ble Hbsotice of one man. Krom what we can make out aL the present time we most oer- • ainly think it will be a very hard struggle for firs* place butwren the three 8 ‘nior crews, who appear to be most evenly nmtnhed, Barnes hun got another man pulling No. 2 fur him, in place of the one picked for him at first. He (No. 2) is h good man, who is very willing and wi 1 stick to his work right throughout, Tho alteration has not by any moans made the crew weaker. Barne’e crew now stands as follows s —Barnes, (stroke) ; Bourn, 3; Ward, Ji. ff. 2; Brown, bow. With regard to the junior crews, it is very difficult to ray what sort of a race they will make of it. as the hands are very raw and will require a lot of coaching. Mr Jackson's “ endomitable pluck right through ” is now brought fully into play. He lias a very evenly-weighted crew, and a strong one, with the exception of No. 1, who has tiie strength and the will, but nut “ the knack,” which is everything. This man, though he at present is exceedingly awkward, will, we have no doubt, with the good coaching of his stroke, come into proper form by the day of the race. E. H. Pavjtt'g crew ia in the same condition, very raw, Nos.

1 and 2 being altogether new to the work ; bac ua Lhu aiioke u a thorough* good man, and has his heart in the work, we can say the same for tnat crew as Jackson's, that they will be found “fit” by the time they are called on. Lastly we come to Skeet’s crew, which will prove rather a tough one to beat. Tiie stroke has his men down regularly every morning, doing good practice. We have seen them out on several occasions, and they pull well together, only we would suggest No. 3 to come forward quicker, so as to keep the tune better, and io use his back more, and not let his arms do ail the work.
