He made his first appearance in Wellington, where he started in a two and-a-half mile race, weight for age, beating Whitefoot, Gazelle, and others. Then went to Napier, where he was beaten by Never Miss by a head, New Chum carrying 211bs over, Never Miss beating Lady Grey and others.
