The publisher of the Tyronne (Ireland), and Courier have been arrested for printing and issuing placards proclaiming the views of the National League. The total reserve in the Bank of England in notes and bullion is £13,000,000, an increase of £300,000 during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities remains at 43 per cent. The Bankrate of discount is unchanged at 3 per cent., and the mark'd rate at 2 per cent. Consols remain at 101 f. New Zealand securities remain as follows ;—5 per cent. 10-40 loan, 105; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 104 ; 4j per cent. 1870 1904 loan, 101 J; 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 100 J. Australian hides are in less demand, and prices have fallen j. At to-day’s wool-sales, 8.300 bales were offered. The tone of the sale was firm. The total quantity offered since the opening ol the present series is 88,600 bales. The withdrawals amount to 7,000 bale" Nov. 30. GougU and New Zealand securities requotations. The Committee of the Chamber of Deputies have voted a sum of 9,000,000 francs to cover the expenses of the French expedition to Tonquin. lhe Marquis Tseng, Chinese Ambassador, who has been in this city some daysjforjjthe purpose of carrying out negotiations with the French Government, will shortly return to England. A serious accident occurred to-day, on the railway line, near Mountfort, Brittany Eighteen lives have been lost by thejlisaster, and fifteen passengers are suffering frum serious injuries. It is stated that the Government have decided to send re-in forcemeats to De Brazza, who is engaged in forming French trading stations on the Congo. The Parliamentary Committee appointed to consider the question of voting credit for the Tonquin expedition, in making its report, recommended that endeavors should be made by the Government to arrive at an amicable arrangement with China, but at the same time the Committee recognised the necessity of sending reinforcements to Tonquin as a precautionary measure.
