NATIVE LAND COURT.

(Before His Honor Judge Brookfield and Native Assessor). y THURSDAY. Waiwhakaata. Block. (On the opening of the Court this morning the objection raised yesterday with reference to four Natives having put in their wives as entitled to equal shares in the Waiwhakata Block without their having any right whatever except through their husbands, was gone into. The several Natives came forward and acknowledged they bad done so, and gave as their sole reason that they assumed their wives were entitled to equal shares with themselves. In the end the four shares were struck out and equally divided amongst the other owners, Matawhebo No. 5. Mr. Rees stated that it was proposed to out out Katarina Kahutia’s share without any order being made by the Court, A long conversation beie rose as to a proposed road which Mr. Rees wished the Court to cut out of the block, with a view of improving the value of the same. The Court refused to mAe the reserve which was proposed, as it would not be fair L to the owners, who would have so much less * land. . I Mr. (Hfes said if the Court would adjourn w the matter until Saturday he would obtain the signatures of the parties concerned, who were willing that the road should be made. The Court said that if the reserve was made of such a width through the block it could be used for what purpose they liked, but it would be a private road to all intents and purposes, without the County Council •was to take it over. The Court deferred its decision on the point until Saturday. Katarina Kahutia asked that Imr shares in the block might be allocated to herself. She was informed that she must wait until Saturday. Mr. Rees made application that the cost of the arbitration which had been made in the interests of Wi Brown might be made chargeable on the land. ? Tl e Court agreed to this application. v Seme further business of minor importance closed the business for the day.
