The weather was all that could be desired, The first event of the day was i— Maiden Race, 100 yards. B. Weston 1 A. Campbell 2 A. Ross 8 ■ The following also ran H. Beckett, P. Maher , and H. Cantie. Great discontent was expressed by the manner in which this race was started, 4 and F. Maher handed in a protest, he having a. won the race in the first, place, but as it wae declared a false start he declined to run again. There cannot be a doubt but what hie protest was well grounded, as the race wee very badly managed. Bora' Race (Handicap) under 18 years. W. Atkin ~, 1 R. Hepburn ... ... 2 E. Lewie ... 8 5 started. Won easily by two yards BtKTHDAt Haxdioae (let «v,nt) 100 yards H Cantie (8 yds) ... 1 J Aggers (scratch) ... 2 H Campbell (2 yds) ... 8 6 started : good race, all three coming in dote together. A' Tossing the Cam*. J Mullans (Utt 4m) ... 1 Te Kani (12ft Ilin) ... 8 Gibm Race Handicat (under 18) 78 yards. F Wright 1 C Goldsmith 2 E Hepburn 3 Six started. Won by three yards. Good second Hop, Step and Jtrssy O'Connor (38ft Sin) ... 1 Albert (38ft 2in)..> ... 3 Four entered Rdnning High Jump. Thmaii, (6ft lin) ... 1 O'Connor (ift) 2 Dunlop 3 8 entries. WyHie and Mill retired at 4ft Bln, and Bilham and Weston at 6ft, whilst of the remaining competitors, only Tamati cleared 6ft lin. Maoh Race (Handicap) 260 yards M Pehepe 1 Goldsmith 8 ’ Tamati 8 Four starved; won by two yards Bikthdat Handicap (2nd event) 200 yards Aggers 1 Cintlo 2 McFarlane 8 Standing High Jtx». O'Connor 1 Mill 3 Wyllie * Becket declared off at Bft Bm, and Gray and Adeanc at 3ft Bin, whilst at 4ft Sin only O'Connor managed to get over. Standing Long June

George 1 Weston ... 2 J Cantie 8 7 ran. George won by 1 yard. second and third. Hoboes High Jeur. Bailor (Mr Garrett's).., 1 Fly (Mr Davis') 2 The following horses also entered i— Ift T. E. R, Bloomfield's doottish Chief, and Mr Alberts Mary. The jumping commenced at 4 feet by Sailor taking it quietly. Scottish Chief went over after a baulk, and Fly wan) at it and got over in two trials, followed by Mary. At 4ft Bin Fly blundered and refused Mary baulked but took it at the second attempt, whilst Scottish Chief and Fly made easy sport of it. At 4ft Bin Fly and Scottish Chief went over dean, followed by Sailor after two trials. Mary had to retire. At 4ft Bin Fly shot over—Sailor next wont at it and made a grand jump but rising too soon failed to clear, but on a second attempt went over flying. After three attempts Scottish Chief had to retire. On thw bar being raised to 4ft Ilin Sailor made a magnificent jump clearing the bar by fully 6 inches, and was followed by Fly after two attempts. At 6ft Bin Fly could not bo got over when Sailor after two attempts wae lifted over in splendid style and was declared the winner admidat loud cheers. Horsis, over three jumps, including watery jump There were seven entries for this event, . but only Forest King could be induced to & t ike the water jump, after clearing which ha " blundered at the second fence and coming on a stake wae impaled. After considerable diM culfy the poor brute was cleared and dragged over the ditch where he laid bleeding to death. This accident terminated the days proceedings
