He was bred by Mr Donald Fraser, Rangitikei, by Traducer, dam Fair Lass, by Biddles worth, grand dam Fair Wave, imported from Sydney, Fair Wave was supposed to be one of the grandest Arab mares ever imported to New Zealand. Naw Chum has shown his good breeding both on the turf and at the stud. He made his first appearance in Wellington, where he started in a two and-a-h»l£ mile race, weight for age, beating Whitefoot, Gazelle, and others. Then went to Napier, where he was beaten by Never Miss by a head, New Chum carrying 211bs over, Never Miss beating Lady Grey and others. He then saddled for the Consolation, beating Wuirarapa, Lady Grey and Wide awake. Terms, £3 10s each mare. Two or more mares, the property of the same owner, as per agreement.
